- Ultrasound diagnosticsA medical examination technique using high frequency sound waves. They are transmitted into the body via a transducer (scanning probe) and reflected according to the structure and consistency of the tissue and organs examined (echoes). The transducer is switched to receive mode and can now convert these echoes into different shades of grey, which can be seen on a screen. This method is entirely painless and does not represent any risk to the patient. It is therefore widely used in antenatal care and to monitor the baby’s development in the womb, as well as for investigation of the lower abdomen and female breast.
- Minimally invasive surgery
In contrast to open surgery this method does not require a large
incision. Instead, the abdomen is inflated with carbon dioxide
to create space in which the surgeon can operate. The operation
is performed by inserting a miniature camera and special instruments
through separate very small incisions around the navel and groin
areas.
The advantages of this technique include less scarring and pain and a shorter hospital stay. - OncologyThe branch of medicine concerned with the study and treatment of tumours. In gynaecology these are mainly breast cancer and cancers of the cervix, ovaries or uterus. Treatments and therapies for the various cancers are continually monitored and improved.
